The trajectory of my life changed in college. Unexpectedly and sovereignly, between playing soccer, studying, and partying, the Holy Spirit gave me a new heart one night in Easton, Pennsylvania. Jesus became real to me, I received him for what he truly is, Lord and Savior. My desires began to change, but so did my mind. I was hungry to learn the beauties and truths of the gospel with an intellectual curiosity I had never experienced before. It was like my deepest thirst had been quenched, but then suddenly I was given an unquenchable thirst for the things of God. I remember sitting down in a coffee shop the week I became a Christian to read R.C. Sproul’s, The Holiness of God. I finished it in one sitting. That season began a growing love for reading and writing in general, but especially for reading and writing about God’s grace in Christ.
I grew up on Long Island, New York with 3 siblings, and a loud and boisterous Irish and Greek family. Soccer was my entire life, and whenever I smell the green grass or watch a soccer game my heart is so filled with joy because there are so many happy endorphins and grooves cemented in my brain from years on the pitch. Besides being the best game in the world, it landed me at Lafayette College in Easton, PA, and it was during those years that I know my heart was truly regenerated. I earned a degree in History and Secondary Education simultaneously and taught middle and high school for 8 years (marrying my husband Justin a few years after college) before the privilege of staying home to raise our daughters the past 13 years.
My husband attended Westminster Seminary, CA for three years and received his MDiv. During that time, I had the privilege of sitting in and auditing various classes and I genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed soaking in all the rich theology I could. I still continue to self-study and one day my dream is to get a Biblical Counseling degree through a seminary. I love learning and using knowledge of God’s word to help those who are hurting.
Currently we live in Eastern South Dakota, where we are raising our four beautiful daughters, homeschooling, and enjoying ministry at our local church, West Center Baptist Church, where my husband serves as the senior pastor. I also work part-time at a local nursing home in town and serve as one of the biblical counselors at West Center every week.
I love to write, and I pray you are encouraged through it. I also love to teach the ladies at our local church, and I have spoken at a few ladies’ conferences the past couple of years.
I hope as you peruse this small space that your burdens are somewhat lifted, and your eyes are fixed on Christ. He alone can give you rest.
